IMO,"and basing it on...must come before the main verb in order to make this version a complete sentence" says that choice(c) is not a complete sentence because there is nothing parallel with "basing" and that an ",and" indicates that (C) must be a complete sentence that should be equiped with its own subject and verb just as (D) and (E) did.

"they based”is parallel to “they exploited”,but for this sentence to work,"and"would have to be inserted before"their harvest of fish"
indicates that the parallelism is broken without and "and" insterted before "their harvest of fish" because "and they" in (E) has nothing to parallel with and absence of "and" before "their harvest" suggests that the paralllelism has not ended,according to the standard form:noun1,noun2,noun3,AND noun4.Also,"such……like" breaks the idiom.

但是第一个问题，C的意思不是说“and basing it on...”应该放在主句动词前吗？放主句动词前才make this version a complete sentence何解？还是我理解错了？O(∩_∩)O谢谢~

接近了，我理解应该是放在前半句的后半部分与Building ……并列：
Building on civilizations that preceded them in coastal Peru AND basing it on the cultivation of crops like corn and beans, harvesting ? sh and seafood, and the exploiting of other wild and domestic resources the Mochica developed their own elaborate society.
Before the main verb最可能是这么的Before法，修改后除了it指代不是非常明确外无明显语法错误

我这道题目虽然对了，但一直很困惑选项B分词的逻辑主语是什么。
是主句的主语the Mochica还是最近的名词elaborate society？
既然是based on的被动结构，那应该是elaborate society is based on ....可是我记得分词结构的逻辑主语要和主句主语一直的，否则就犯dangling的错误。望高人解答~

过去分词放在句末就近修饰；只有现在分词放在句末修饰句子主语。

关于C选项的解释

and basing it on...如果还原到句子里变为building...., the Monica developed...society and basing it on.....
此时basing on与building 平行，由于and连接两个句子， building之后有主谓，而basing it on之后没有主谓，
所以是incomplete sentence.

正确格式： building...., the monica did...... and basing it on......, sth did.......
