Wrong answer. Exhibits --> exhibit. Includes --> to include

2楼的哥们。我觉得应该选D。that 后面跟复数，指代animals，所以可排除AB选项，剩下3个选项C,里being均为降格

个人认为选D
B选项includes和exhibits不能并列，因为从句意看，include这个动作应该是紧承expand，表示结果，也就是list扩大到包括lower vertebrates

主要是看that从句时修饰那个词的其实这个从句时修饰animals 所以用单数了然后后面的那个preference for 算是一个比较固定的搭配了
