曼哈顿中一个解释不懂,请教牛人解释下!!!

"They did not go, because they were lazey." In this case, the people in question did not go for one reason: "because they were lazy." But consider the sentence again:
"They did not go because they were lazy." In this case, without the comma, the people probably DID go, but not because they were lazy, for some reason(they did not go because they were lazy, they went because they were tired).

请给我解释下这个是什么意思,为什么这两句话少个逗号会有这样的区别呢!!!

第一句话,明显有逗号隔开,就是一个主句加上一个原因状语从句,原因状语从句是解释主句的,所以"They did not go, because they were lazey." 的中文意思就是他们不去,是因为他们懒,那么反过来说,就是懒是他们不去的原因,如果不懒,他们就会去
第二句话,没有逗号,"They did not go because they were lazy." 可以理解说他们不去,是因为他们懒,但是不能说如果不懒他们就会去,究其这原因为什么不可以,我也说不好,可能是英语表达的一种习惯或其他

嗯,小妞说得对的,本质上是因为在第二句里面because they were lazy更可能仅修饰go,虽然也可以修饰They did not go整个分句,所以有歧义的存在。而第一句里面的because they were lazy仅修饰They did not go整个分句。

第二句的意思应该是:他们(可能)去了,但不是因为他们懒(才去的)。 可能是由于别的原因去的,比如他们累了。

not 否定 (go because they were lazy)
