不知道正确答案，但是long overdue in 是应该没错的，A和C大家觉得是哪个呢？

我觉得选E
award sb. sth.排除AB
the nation's highest military award 作为the CMH的同位语，解释说明的作用吧.
然后in long-overdue recognition这些成分应该是修饰前面句子的（不管是修饰句子还是the CMH）,至少不是修饰the nation's highest military award ,所以应该用逗号和这一成分隔开。
定语从句which was 没有同位语简洁。

貌似我考试遇到了这道题
我支持选E，the nation’s highest military award是一个插入语做解释说明，你可以把这部分去掉再读读句子

我觉得是E
1）award …… 获得什么。不需要with介词，我排除了A B
2）long-overdue是个adj，如果后面直接加in 很奇怪。 in long-overdue recognition of their outstanding bravery.应该进一步修饰那个奖。
