yes, the questions are very tough. I do not think I did good job at that time. But anyway I went through it.
some questions are normal, such as stating your resume, telling a story about leadership. others are somewhat challenging. like, what do you think our integrative thinking will help you? what is your contribution to our certain course( the interviewer gave me a name of their courses)?
another like this, i think this is simulation of MBA class, if you are the only person who will do presentation in your team, what would you do?
when I finished the interview, I reviewed all these questions. My advice is reviewing all general questions about interview in this websit and make answers for them, not learning them by heart but changing them into your oral English.
The interview took 40-50 minutes. There were a lot of questions such as :
If your project will due tomorrow but your team members are having fun and walking around, what would you do.
How will you use the Integrative thinking to your daily work.
I think the Rotman interview is more about gathering missing information or confirming info you have presented.
I had also received an unexpected interview call from the admissions director and she said she assumed that someone from admissions must have emailed me to inform me of the call. I said that wasnt the case and I wasn't expecting the call. She went on to ask whether I had some minutes to answer her questions. I couldn't believe that my admissions interview was about to start, for which I had decided to prepare very hard. I was a bit jittery at the start but then things smoothened out. The interviewer really had me relax. I answered some question very well, some OK and a couple of them badly. The interview questions are the very standard Montauk type questions. Mine were :
1. Why Rotman, Canada?
2. How do you feel with your current employer?
3. Describe a situation when you motivated someone at workplace.
4. A project/ task you initiated.
5. Some questions related to my resume/application
6. Something that i have not mentioned in my app and wud like to disclose now.
7. Any questions from my side
Hope you get a reply from them soon. Dont worry, I guess Rotman doesnt interview a lot many of their applicants. They interview to find reasons for not admitting you, if any, rather than the other way. Getting a call to interview is a very very good sign.
Actually I did not get any replies to my mail, so I personally called up the admissions office and narrated my story. I was then forwarded to the person who conducts interviews. I guess he not prepared to take my interview at that time :-) - he asked me to stay online for sometime, then the same questions -
1) Walk me through your resume ?
2) Why MBA? and Why Rotman?
3) Describe a leadership role you were in?
4) What do you think about 'Integrative Thinking' ?
5) Do you wish to add something which you did not mention in your application ?
So overall, things went well :-) So Im not worried now. He said that the results shall come out in a week or two. So fingers crossed now :-)
its always good to ask a question or two when you are offered to do so. This part of the interview is quite important according to me. You shud prepare a couple of questions before hand for this. You may ask questions particularly about the recruitment scene for internationals/internships etc but dont ask things like how i fared in the interview or anything that is availalble on Rotman's website or brochures. It shows lack of research and interest in the school. Adcoms always love to find someone well prepared with the research on their school under his belt.
Iam done with my interview last night. Thanks to Changemyjob and Nayan for their tips! They were really helpful. The questions were pretty straight forward. For everyone's benefit, here is the list of questions; the best I could recall: -
1. Career/Job description
2. Rotman Skills you are looking at.
3. Career goals (10 years down the line)
4. Team working experience (with senior members)
5. Leadership roles
6. In a team - do you choose to be a team worker OR team leader?
6. When you motivated someone at work
7. If looking for any specific field at Rotman
8. Anything to add/change in application
9. Any questions ( i asked - financing options for Int students and any new initiatives in pipeline)
She started on a positive note (good scores, work exp, straight forward essays and that the interview is an essential part of the application process and thats why this call..blah blah) I guess that is a standard practice, and the "cool breeze", Nayan was talking about! Whatever, but I have my fingers crossed since I jumbled up on a question early on, and that bothered me all along. Overall, I feel it was OK if not very good. Rest only the result will tell (by end of this week).
I interviewed with Ms. Kate mertes. She has beautiful voice and is really nice and kind. I didn't have any time for icebreaking but she made me calm. I messed it up then they got me in...I should feel lucky..The same thing will happen to you. you just go for it.
My interview questions are
1. Walk me through your resume.
2. why are you going to MBA for your career at this time and how do you think rotman help you for your career gola
3. If you are in a team in Rotman and doing some case study(or something like that), but other team members are talking some personal things, how are you gonna deal with it..
4. While in Rotman, you found one of your peers had problem with his study or something personal(I don't remember exatly), what are you gonna do?
5. what role do you usually take in your team?
My question, according to other guys who have already gotten through it, was a little tricky. But you know you need to get ready for that.
