这些骨头是一个恐龙的，what就是指代恐龙的，当然是单数。这句话简单一点就是：While digging in the Egyptian desert, huge fossil bones have been found by paleontologists from a dinosaur that ever lived. 后来为了修饰dinosaur就用了一个“类似”宾语从句的结构带入dinosaur，就是what appears to be the second most massive dinosaur。（本人不喜欢中国语法书里的分类结构，什么补语从句啊，什么的，反正代替句子里的宾语内容的都用what）
