句中的protecting是正确的，但我想问下为是么to protect 不行呢？

is "to protect" one of the options? My understanding, to protect usually for purpose, protecting here is to describe the function of the equipment.

1.加to protect的话前面不能加逗号，
2.不加逗号的to protect修饰的是military equipment，而不是protecting 修饰的animal -hide shields.
