D is the best choice.
请问D项中的they不会引起指代歧义吗？

额。个人觉得其他选项错的很明显
其实我觉得并不是每个有they这类指代的都有问题
我想这里是不是有because这个连词在这的原因？？所以就指代的主语？？？

they优先指代核心词，那就是membranes咯
另外，其他几个选项错误的比较明显，相比之下可以很快选出答案来哦

because of是介词不优于in that和because （连词）
而且B中的being wordy

这个题我看到前面有differ from，后面直接挑有in that的选项，发现只有D，而且D没有明显语法错误

because of后面一般接简单的名词短语，若要跟动名词或sb's doing或复杂现在分词修饰抽象名词则应改为because或in that接句子。

而且being一般也很少做正确选项，相比D是最好最清楚的。
