Ha, thanks for pointing out what I said about my choice of interview location.
Let me clarify. I can indeed speak a little Japanese. But there wasn't really any opportunity to show off my Japanese. The entire Harvard interview was conducted in English. The interviewer did not have any Japanese accent, so I don't think she was even Japanese.
My choice was mostly for psychological reasons. If you imagine yourself being the interviewer, and for the entire day you see the same type of people. The person that stands out, be it for good or for bad, or just different, will be more likely to register in the mind of the interviewer. Of course, this is just speculation. Maybe the process if very scientific, so my trick could not work.
I recommend a book called Blink by Gladwell, on the process of human decision. Also, I wanted a little holiday in Tokyo. |
