After reading through thousands of essays, it should be fairly easy to spot one that is longer than average. Think of it as a way to demonstrate your ability to communicate a succinct message and it should help motivate you to trim it down further. Good luck!

每个学校自己有requirement。像我刚刚申的3间学校，有的要求一定要times new roman, single space；有的就说要times new roman, double space；有的就只说要12 pt, double space

所以详细恐怕要自己去研究学校的要求了。字数跟格式的要求一般会在essay那一栏里。要花时间慢慢看学校的网页跟申请表的网页。

make sure you change your paper size to "letter size - 8.5 x 11", otherwise your application doesn't print quite right

这个问题我问过一个学校的小米。她的答复是，

We will review the essay in its entirety as the word limit is a guideline to essay writers. Be aware than we will not review an essay that goes excessively over the word limit; we leave that to your discretion. If you are concerned that your essay might be too far over that limit, we have the optional third essay available for any continuation of thought or point left unmade in the previous two.
