。。。的数量the number of + 复数名词作主语,谓语动词用单数形式;

大量的a number of + 复数名词作主语, 谓语动词用复数

an amount of + 不可数名词
        谓语：单数

quantity of + 不可数名词
        谓语：单数

numbers of 出现一定错

错因：平行

number 表示数量amount的时候可以，可以用单数或复数，

不过the number of 后面谓语单数，
the numbers of 后面谓语复数

另外，a large number of 等于 large numbers of，并非说numbers of 出现一定错

。。。的数量the number of + 复数名词作主语,谓语动词用单数形式;

大量的a number of + 复数名词作主语, 谓语动词用复数，numbers of sth=a large number of sth

an amount of + 不可数名词

quantity of + 不可数名词
                谓语：单数
                    

之所以numbers of使用起来经常出现错误是以为其在表意上会出现歧义的可能性，这里举一道题说明，

A Labor Department study states that the numbers of women employed outside the home grew more than a thirty-five percent increase in the past decade and accounted for more than sixty-two percent of the total growth in the civilian work force

(A)  numbers of women employed outside the home grew by more than a thirty-five percent increase

(B)  numbers of women employed outside the home grew more than thirty-five percent

(C)  numbers of women employed outside the home were raised by more than thirty-five percent

(D)  number of women employed outside the home increased by more than thirty-five percent

(E)  number of women employed outside the home was raised by more than a thirty-five percent increase

这里的ABC选项用numbers of women，由于numbers of sth=a large number of sth，因而这里The plural numbers means a large crowd or multitude，while the singular number refers to a specific quantity of individuals．

但在这道题中，因为是用的wild salmon’s numbers，可以避免产生这样的歧义

所以，当做题中看到numbers of sth的时候要提高警惕，看是否会引起歧义；当遇到one’s numbers的时候也要想一下到底是指的a quantity还是形容一大群

B number of wild salmon is reduced because deep-sea and coastal netting is not controlled

其实B中还有一个错就是这个is,注意A and B 做主语且表示的是不同事物谓语动词要用are!

deep-sea 和coastal都是修饰 netting的啊../.所以不是are,是is
    

这道题总觉得wild salmon’s numbers 别扭，为什么不是the number of wild salmon呢？如果不考虑后面by平行的问题，这里是否可以用the number of的结构呢？
