E里面appear的时态不对，题目中的the Paleolithic era indicates 是现在时。而且OG里说的很清楚啊，The expression equipped to face is calearer and more direct than equipped for facing.

appear to 要比 appear for 要更符合语法原则。记住就是啦。

借用前人jenny1989的解释：“Neanderthals过去看起来似乎已经。。说明Neanderthals 已经灭绝了。
Appear和后边的indicates并列，说明都是现在才发生的，而N在很多年前就灭绝了，所以to have been equipped肯定是发生在appear之前。 ”
