why not D? 过去完成时在这里有什么不妥？ propose的动作是过去，exist可以说是过去的过去，d也简洁一些

E: now的位置错，改成that are now temperate就对了。

D: 其实我也错选了D. 想了一下，原因是不是在ambiguity. 好似说great ice sheets就存在于当前的temperate areas（应该表达的是great ice sheets过去所存在的area，目前是temperate的）

B: B不是答案吗？
