请教一道语法题~~ OG12-50

According to some analysts, the gains in the stock market reflect growing confidence that the economy will avoid the recession that many had feared earlier in the year and instead come in for a "soft landing" followed by gradual increase in the business activity.

A. that the economy will avoid the recession that many had feared earlier in the year and instead come

B. in the economy to avoid the recession , what many feared earlier in the year, rather to come

C. in the economy's ability to avoid the recession, something earlier in the year many had feared,and instead to come

D. in the economy to avoid the recession many were fearing earlier in the year, and rather to come

E. that he economy will avoid the recession that was feared earlier this year by many with it instead coming

恩，有两个疑惑：
D选项的 to avoid and to come 平行，这样后半句会不完整吗？ and后面不一定是完整句呀~OG解释为什么说后半句不完整呢？

“recession （that）many were fearing earlier in the year ”中的that为什么不可省呢？不是像the book (that) I bought 中的一样吗，that作为后面从句中谓语的宾语？

语法考逻辑

1 avoid的逻辑主语是economy， D中逻辑主语不知道怎么理解。况且D的rather to do 的用法没见过(不完整可能指这个)
that同位语从句都是修饰confidence的

2 我对had feared时态有些问题，我理解的是，recession确定不会发生，那么默认时态就算过去了，fear recession就是过去的过去。不知道楼主是怎么理解的。

3 GMAT 里面，从句的that默认不能省。宾语从句的that省略，我倒是仅仅碰到过一个例外prep08sc1-214

214. (T-9-Q31)
Scholars who once thought Native American literatures were solely oral narratives recorded by missionaries or anthropologists now understand this body of work to consist of both oral literatures and the written works of Native American authors, who have been publishing since 1772.
A Scholars who once thought Native American literatures were solely oral narratives

感觉那个更像是同位语从句

谢谢sheikh239~ 分析的很透彻~从语义解释就清楚多了~
avoid和come的主语都是economy，而中间B/C/D的介词结构使主语变成了confidence，E后半句that was feared earlier this year by many with it instead coming，被动语态没有必要且it无指代对象。

至于过去完成时，句中确实没有出现过去时的背景，可能是因为the gains是已经发生了的，early in the year则是更早的情况，所以fear就用过去完成时了吧~
