A)正确，由and连接的两个并列的强调句，注意此处两个并列结构中的it不是形式主语，而是强调结构中的it。

我当然坚定不移地相信官方给的答案以及牛牛们的解释。但我并不十分明白：
前辈们的解释说，and前后两个it是强调句的it，而并非形式主语的it，那么OK，但是and前面也就是第一个it引导的强调句中也出现了两个it，而且第二个it明显指代华盛顿邮报，同一句话中，第一个it是强调句的it，第二个it指代实意的华盛顿邮报？？这好像说不通，我想我应该理解错了，但是求clarify，谢谢！！

前面的it 是强调句型中的it，那么这个it 没啥指代意义，所以和that后面的it不冲突。如果前面的it 是形式主语的话，那么有指代意义了，后面再出现 it，或是its，就不对了

praise for its unrelenting reporting of the Watergate scandal.

请问一下，it作形式主语时是不是后面就不能再有it或its出现了。而it作强调句型后面还可以出现it或者its。那么it作形式主语和it的强调句型怎么分辨啊。

形式主语是指由于真正的主语太长，所以用it代替，以防止出现头重脚轻的感觉，真正的主语是后面比较冗长的句子或者短语。
例如： It is claimed that 2000 people died in the earthquake.
这个句子中，真正的主语是2000 people died in the earthquake，it只是作为一个避免头重脚轻的形式主语，有实际的指代对象，就是2000 people died in the earthquake.

强调句最明显的标志是，将句子中的 it is(was) that去掉之后，句子依旧语法、语义上完整。
例如：
It was only after his parents died that he went to America.

这个句子中，把it was ...that去掉之后，句子变为： only after his parents died, he went to america.依旧成立。
所以这个句子是强调句

由于it在强调句中没有实际指代意思，所以后面依旧可以出现指代其他事物的it或者its

而在做形式主语时it有确定的指代对象，所以只要后面再出现的it或its与前面所被指代的形式主语不一致，就不对。

但愿我说的还算清楚。。。
