我怎么感觉这个题选E呢! 因为domestic 和 performing 是两个分词并列啊! 如果选D, 岂不是 a third of them 变为主语? 那就不平行了啊!

偶认为答案是D没错，浅见如下请指教：

domesticated and performing 分词形式并列修饰 a third of them， “a third of them domesticated and performing various essential tasks” 作伴随情况修饰elephants，很清晰。 a third of them 作主语的话需要谓语动词，而这里没有。

E 想用with做伴随情况出现，弄巧成拙，不知道with是修饰forest呢还是修饰elephants。故错。
