As a pianist, composer, scholar, and essayist on a variety of learned subjects, among the most gifted and versatile musicians of his time was Camille Saint-Saens(1835-1921) who was, as many of his contemporaries were, deeply interested in Oriental themes.

A.       As a pianist ,composer, scholar, and essayist on a variety of learned subjects, among the most gifted and versatile musicians of his time was Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921), who was

B.       As a pianist, composer, scholar, and essayist on a variety of earned subjects, Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921) was among the most gifted and versatile Musicians of his time and having been

C.       Pianist, composer, scholar, and essayist on a variety of learned subjects, among the most gifted and versatile musicians of his time was Camille Saint-Saens(1835-1921), and he was

D.      Pianist, composer, scholar, and essayist on a variety of learned subjects, Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921) was among the most gifted and versatile musicians of his time and was

E.       Pianist, composer, scholar, and essayist on a variety of learned subjects, Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921), who was, among the musicians of his time, one of the most gifted and versatile, had been

I will choose d.

choic D is more clear and less redundant than choice A

其实a和d最主要的是语序的问题,通常来说英文是在设下疑问之后会立马解答:比如说这个题目,当读到a pianist, composer, scholar, and essayist on a variety of learned subjects,时候,读者一定会想,这个人是谁;而a的表达紧接又设下了一个疑问“among。。。。”

B.       As a pianist, composer, scholar, and essayist on a variety of earned subjects, Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921) was among the most gifted and versatile Musicians of his time and having been

The origin:

Debussy said that, right? Think again. The real author was Camille Saint-Saëns. Pianist, composer, scholar and essayist on a variety of learned subjects, Saint-Saëns was among the most gifted and versatile musicians of his time, and deeply interested in Oriental themes. His first opera to reach the stage, La Princesse Jaune (1872), reflected the incipient fashion for Japanese design that would play a central part in the Aesthetic movement of the 1880s.
