I went to ND this weekend for a friend's commencement. Since I am very interested in the MSA program I went to talk to the people there and the professor in charge of admission. It is my first trip to Notre Dame and I am very impressed. The people are nice. ND is very beautiful but it was so cold and windy. I was there for three days. Friday was okay and Saturday and Sunday were just cold.
I ask the placement information for the Chinese students. They said that they had 5 students directly from China and were all placed (3 Big Four, one GT and one tax consulting; four of them got H1b). In addition, two Chinese students who applied in US got offers as well (one Big Four and one government). They did mention that they had one international student who did not have an offer.
However, they believe class 2009 will be much more difficult to place. They admitted about 10 from China. The professor told me that they had rules of enrolling around 10% international students. I am concerned and asked him why??? He said that it has been very difficult to place international (Chinese) students. ND could not take good care of all the Chinese students if there were too many. He said that he understood the Accountancy Department could get lots of money by opening the door to international students. However, ND feels it is irresponsible to do so.
Overall, I really enjoy my trip. I was also invited to go to the MSA commencement brunch. I saw some of the graduating students there. They were all so happy and busy (taking photos) so I did not get the chance to talk to them.
Wow!! 100% placement (7 of 7) at commencement is common for Notre Dame. However, 80% H1b (4 of 5) this year is amazing. I heard (not sure about it) it is only about 20-30% for new MSA graduates. It must be the luck of the Irish though it has nothing to do with Notre Dame.
"都五月份了还这么冷...没法过" It has been very cold in the past few days but it is uncommon. I went out early this morning and, boy, it was coooooooooold. It is quite nice now. I am about 90 miles away from ND. The bad news is 五月份 might be the best time at ND. I went there several times about this time and they must have planted 1 million tulips around the campus. It was beautiful beyond description.
"对学生负责..." Being from a school that does not care about the students, it is exactly the reason I turn from a ND hater to an admirer. ND is like a community and the people there are genuinely concerned about their students. It is not only the religion. It is a culture!!
