English Precourse at CEIBS

After getting the offer from ceibs, I was informed that there would be an English precourse before the MBA program  in order to improve Chinese student's ability to study the whole MBA program in English.  During the whole process of application, I have never been to ceibs, so I applied for the precourse to both improve the language skills and know something about ceibs.

On the 4th of July, I flew to SH from a city in North East of China. Very excited, I was at the ceibs campus. I got lost easily because of the similarities of the buildings.  Ceibs requires that all international students should attend the Chinese precourse if they don't speak Chinese. Therefore, there were actually more international students than Chinese students at precourse. A dinner party was organised on 4th evening with around 60 students presence and many different names had to be memorized as quickly as possible. This was the beginning of the language precourse.

During the first two-week precourse, not only the language had to be learnt well, but also I need to figure out what kinds of activities I should attend since there were so many activitives organised by different classmates. Life was much busier than I had expected. I had been always thinking that the precourse might have been a good chance for me to have a rest from work. There were a lot of team work assignments given by the precourse teacher who is acutally not ceibs' staff. The English precourse has been always outsourced by ceibs. As for the food, there are a lot of complaints from international students and Chinese girls, but for me, the food is just cheap and delicious. Obviously it is difficult to satisfy everyone.

Sorry, my plane will take off and I have to stop writing now. If I have time, I will continue writing something about my study at ceibs to share with those who want to know something about this business school.  Now I have to fly back to North East of China to work for my company before the whole MBA program starts.

Cheers!

I am home now. Shanghai is too hot for me.

During the last two-week precourse, international students and Chinese students have mingled a lot. Therefore, I have seen my classmates in the English precourse class make progress pretty much because of the good English speaking atmosphere. As far as I am concerned, I am very statisfied with the precourse for I can speak English very confidently now.  One of my classmates made the biggest progress and we are all very proud of him. I am ready now for the whole MBA program in English. The foudation course will start on the 10th of Aug. and I am looking forward to having the new challenges.

Personally, I feel that Ceibs is a progressive business school. During the precourse, I worked as volunteer to help IESE EMBA students interview a single Shanghainese family.  They studied three courses at ceibs within two weeks. They told me that ceibs is pretty famous in Europe because as long as Chinese mainland is concerned, ceibs is the only busniess school where there are a lot of interactions with European business schools.  Luckily, I received several presents from those EMBA students because of my voluntary interpretation for them.

I will share something about the foundation courses with those who are interested in ceibs after I finish them.

Cheers!

欢迎CD中有更多的经验分享。

虽然我不是中欧的学生(科大的),但我觉得这样的经验分享对于后来者帮助很大。

希望论坛少一点互相攻击,多一些有意义的经验分享!

The experience with IESE EMBA students is really awesome. It enhanced my skills in three aspects.

1) Culture Difference

I didn't expect some of the EMBA students asked the family we interviewed a question that "How do u feel about that China will conquer this world?" However, such tough questions help me get a better understanding of foreigner's attitude, interest, and perhaps fear as well toward China. While subject to potential selection bias, the group of EMBA students really show me what is culture difference in an interesting way.

2) Soft Skills

I did my best to make the conversation between the family and the EMBA students more efficient and funny by my body language and tone。I am not saying this experience changed me significantly. But the awareness to use such skills is priceless for me, a former IT guy.

3) Spoken English

To be honest, i am not so confident to do a simultaneous translation at the very beginning. But it turns out to be a pleasant experience for me. It is not so difficult as i imagined.

So such experience not only enhanced my skills but also built up my confidence. The only thing i am not satisfied is that i did not get any presents from the EMBA students as frank did. lol.

Also hope it helps to potential applicants interested in CEIBS.
