2. anespecially serious pollutant because it diminishes the (respiratory system’sability) to deal

介词短语的确也可以修饰主语，从而导致歧义。但这里的考点是ability to do something. ability in doing是错误的用法。

首先，LZ的理解是有误的，ability to do是个搭配，它们不能像LZ那样拆分的
其次，C答案中的capability用法很冗杂，也不正确，正确搭配是be capability of doing
在没有绝对错误的情况下ability优于capability
