B有歧义，可以表示为“提高了两次”也可以是“提高了两倍”

Answee D and E are not correct grammar. "Double" is a "vt". so it sould not be used as " be doubled....When you see the phrase "from time to time", please use the "past tense". ex: He was a president of China from 1990 to 1995...

Answer A is correct because "by" is awkward. Twice is a adv and can't be as an object. Remember that only "Noun" can be an object.
Ex: He got rid of only.... (wrong)

Answer B: two times can be replaced by "twice. two times is too wordy.

Only C is concise and correct...

我同意上贴对Choice D, E and A 的解释。但是我个人认为，in Choice B two times 意思是增长了两次而不是原文的增长了两倍的意思，B错了是因为它改变的原文的意思与简洁无关。
