这几天总结语法，发现一个关于A and B of C的优先修饰问题，请NN们指点，

Question-1

I don't think the point of this question is to understand rhetorical sructure.

The the point is

1.idiomatical structure: requirement of , not requirement by

2.D is eliminated because it wrongly uses "was" singular, but it should be "were" pluar.

3.Compared A and E, E is superior to A,because A is wordy and awkward.

Question-2

The key to this question is to understand a pretty important point, that is the reference "them' is confusing.

It can refer to the currents or the patterns.

It's much clearer just to say "the currents of the ocean", that's the end of A.

By the by, almost all the sentence correction questions are focusing on grammatic points.

There're always be some points to judge or eliminate the options. And usually they are all COMMON SENSE.

If you find out it's difficult to decide between two options or there's some structure you rarely see before, then that defintely means there is still one point you can't figure out yet.

我觉得楼主需要从句意上来理解
第一道，irrigation和fertilizer明显没有关系
第二道，pattern如果不是of ocean currents那是什么pattern呢？
比较两个题中A and B of C的情况
第一道中的A明显是在农业这个背景之下可以独立的
第二道中的pattern则必须依赖于ocean currents
