According to the quotation, it suggests that protecting global environment is not a responsibility of a single nation but that of the whole world. I absolutely agree with this point, cooperating is needed to preserve the world’s energy resources though conflicts may appear concerning each nation’s own interest. The main reason why I think cooperation is so essential is that the energy resources locate so unbalanced on the earth. The geography and the areas of a country determine the sorts and amount of certain resources. For example, Japan is an island-country surrounding by ocean, oils and mineral resources are relatively limited, while Middle East is rich in original oil. It is ridiculous to urge Japan to consume oil to the minimum but set no limitation to Middle East. On the other hand, Japan enjoys the rich fish resource, to the contrary, Middle East has no access to such resources since it is a inland country. Again, it also unreasonable to let Middle East to conserve fish resources while put no stress on Japan to excessive deploring fish resources. So to preserve energy on earth not only need Japan’s effort but also Middle East’s effort, not by itself.
The second reason for the necessity of cooperation is the globalization. With the rapid steps of globalization, connections between nations are more profound and complicated in recent years especially referring to economy. Products are no longer manufactured in individual nations but rather are a combination of several regions’ coordinated work. United States requires iron and oil from other countries as raw materials and in turn those countries purchase products from the United States. If energy consuming countries waste energy in large quantities, the energy producing countries surely will explore more because some of them think that make money by selling them to energy consuming countries is a good way without noticing that they may use up the energy that is the origin of their posterity’s wealthy. Thus not the individual countries who possess the energy should shoulder the responsibility of preserving energies but also the countries who consume them.
The last reason why concerted efforts are required in preserving world’s energy resources is technology needed of the individual nations protect certain energy is obtained in another country. So if the skills is transmitted from the nation owing it to the nation requiring it will certainly make the energy preserving programs more effective and efficient.
In conclusion, every country in the world should shoulder the responsibility to conserve the world’s energy resources. Based on the three reasons above, individual nations’ effort is far less sufficiency to reach the goal of protecting the world’s energy resources for future generations.
