Mauritius was a British colony for almost 200 years, excepting for the domains of administration and teaching, the English language was never really spoken on the island.

首先句子中有两个动词was，所以必须有连词。感觉GMAT中except通常理解作介词不作连词，所以 A, B,E排除。用excepting for+名词在句首通常表明此名词和主语是同类，这里明显the domains 和the English language不是一类事物而是和the island可比。所以选C. excepting for除...之外（被排除的概念）。

个人拙见: M岛已经有近200年英国殖民地的历史了,但英语除了在管理和教育方面有使用外,在岛上并未通用.

换个句序: The English language was never really spoken on the island except in the domains of administration and teaching.

我先选了D, 但看来还是C好点.  我觉得except 在这里是prep.

D 的缺点在于 excepting 好象是动词进行时,意思也讲得通,但一没有in连接 domain, 二没有from,如朗文所要求的那样.
