答案D。但D 中as .....插入语为什么用一般现在时？而不是和句子的其他部分保持一致----用过去时？

因为as his surviving velvet suit shows是指现在还表明，如果用过去时的话，言外之意是现在就不表明了。

——我觉得这种说法有些牵强...show 如果在此用过去式可以仅仅标明是过去发生的动作，就像

that he was, as his surviving velvet suit shows, a short man.中的was一样，用was并非有言外之意表明现在

不是short man了。。。

可能是我的理解有问题，但还是对此句的show为何要用现在时很疑惑，期待NN指正
