I was told today that they put me on the
waiting list. They have many strong applicants this year and I can tell from
the email that my chance is slim. They have started calling top candidates for
campus interview. They will admit 2-3 PhDs this year.

Vacouver is way more attractive than other Canadian cities. No wonder so many ppl applied to UBC.

beautiful city and nice program, although chenqiang chenxia left for wisc,

good reputation and attractive placement/compensation record,

many asian grads were or want to be placed at hongkong.

ps, after jerry retired, they don't like analytical people anymore, coz it's hard to publish.
