这个题我选的是E 选错了答案为A，省略了By。。。。。。
我想问一下1. rather than 和instead of到底有区别吗 2.instead of 后面是不是应该直接接表达的东西呢？3.B和E到底哪里错了？

instead of 接名词性成分（包括名词、动名词）
rather than 除了接名词性成分比如rather than sth./sb./doing sth.外，还可以接不带to的动词不定式，适用范围较广泛。

这道题来讲，rather than使用中，从语法角度上看它是个连词,前后成分在形式上必须保持一致,当然关键是看对比的结构要一致，那就很容易发现答案了，对吧A：by doing。。。rather than doing。。。。，而B：结构错误：by doing。。。。rather than N。。。。（当然可以看到B用的generation没有A中的generate简介有效）
E的选项的话，instead of和rather than其实含义不同，简单地说：rather than有前后内容平行比较的含义，但是instead of有替代的意思（即支持一个否定一个），那么很明显是改变了原文的含义。而且即使使用instead of也应该是加v-ing来和前面的by doing进行比较。。。。。

这个题意思是R是直接从太阳draw heat，而不是通过燃烧卡路里来产生heat，A的意思对的。B drawing their body heat directly from the Sun（rather than the generation of body heat by burning calories），的意思比较歧义，有可能 drawing their body heat （directly from the Sun rather than the generation of body heat by burning calories），rather than从the generation of body heat 中draw heat，很怪。C没有转折。D instead of 好像一般都是直接加doing，而且to do比 for doing好。 E和B差不多，就是用instead of代替 rather than。

这道题我也选了E，一开始排除A是觉得it放在句尾读起来不舒服。但是E和B中都有平行的明显结构问题，A INSTEAF OF B; A RATHER THAN B。 A和B都需要structually and logicially parallel.
所B和E错的更明显，考虑隐性的平行！
