All groups and organizations should function as teams in which everyone makes decisions and shares responsibilities and duties.Giving one person central authority and responsibility for a project or task is not an effective way to get work done.

Which is a more productive method of achieving a goal: let all group members share in the decision making, duties, and responsibilities, or appointing only one member to make decisions,delegate duties,and take responsiblities? The speaker considers the first path a best one.In my view,however, each alternative is viable in certain circumstances.
Team work, the first choice, has substantial numbers of resources,such as computer egineer,psychology expert,commercial officer,educational master,etc. A good example can illustrate the so-called brainpower ,when two group members who representate different nations come to negotiate,each group compose of more than three persons.why is more than three?How about only one person? The reason is that the members can quickly solve the complex problem that need large rang of knowlege about which only one person know all details.
Though team work has above advantages,we still need someone ,a group leader, take responsiblity for a project.For example,when a group of Chinese old people the first time to travel abroad,Italy or France,they can not talk fluently like a native speaker,however,they know Venice is a great place to go and  aris is always romantic and attractive to visitors. Can they go wherever they want? Should they have a dinner whenever they wish?The answer is no,because it is not safe especially for the visitors who is the first time to go abroad.That is why we need a guider,who make decision what is the next step to travel,what time to get up,when is luch time and where to meet.
In conclusion,I agree that in some situations the best way to accomplish a task is through teamwork-sharing responsibility,duties and decision making.However,in other situationl,especially those where individual experience is limited or make a final dicision,the most effective means is for one serve as leader and assume ultimate responsibility for completing the job. |
