求教GWD31套第二套里的几道语法

Q1:

这道题答案选B,也知道为什么选B.但是in large measure 是什么意思?整句话是什么意思呢?

答案为什么选C? 我认为应该是B.显然deal是单数,应该用was

 答案选E.能够理解这句话应该用not...but...的结构,但是E结构并不对称。而且maybe这种口语化的词也不该出现。
