You have no background that is related with business, and the school you are in is not able to show your potential. The chance to be admitted in any major in business school is very slim.
i think science and engineering related background means math, physics, ee, cs, rather than chemistry, biology, which does not require solid quantitative training.
your background is not a problem. The problem is how do you show your commitments. It's very hard to believe from what you have said, that you are committed to a life-time research career in business........

you want to know what helps? then what is your motivation? this is the question I have kept asking and once you can answer this question, then your chances will be improved greatly....sigh
