PE/VC Experts Offer Advice to CEIBS

September 10, 2008. Shanghai campus -- CEIBS MBA students from the 2007 and 2008 classes had a lot of questions for two private equity/venture capital experts who gave talks today as part of the school's career counselling initiatives.

More than 150 participants attended the lecture which covered the latest industry trends and current market status. In addition to the MBA students, the audience also included staff members from the MBA and CDC departments, as well as CEIBS Associate Dean, Academic Director of MBA Programme and Professor of Marketing Lydia Price; and Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship S. Ramakrishna Velamuri. Prof. Price hosted the discussions. 

The session began with a presentation by Neumann Executive Search Partner Mr. Alvaro Arias who took a look at the latest industry developments and what it takes to break into the field. Then, Associate Director of Prax Capital, CEIBS MBA Alumni Ms. Ellen Li shared some of her first-hand experiences by telling the audience about the private equity/initial public offering deals she has handled. She also had valuable advice for the MBA students with an interest in the sector, telling them to start with domestic funds or hedge funds. The formal presentations closed with Thomas Xue, the founding partner of Pinpoint Capital, emphasizing the qualities needed to break into and succeed in the industry.

During the Q&A section, students mainly focused on the growth of the industry and prospects for personal career development. The answers they received demonstrated the experts' profound understanding of the industry and the students were obviously impressed. They also appeared to grasp the idea that survival in this potential-filled but very challenging sector requires: extensive knowledge about the target industries, a strong capability to broaden existing networks and acquire new resources, constant self improvement and continuous learning. 

CEIBS career counselling initiatives are offered to ensure that students, through interaction with a wide variety of industry experts, get a better understanding of the sectors that interest them. With this knowledge, they are better equipped to make career planning decisions.

9月10日，中欧国际工商学院07和08级MBA学生和职业发展中心员工以及相关领域教授代表等近150人济济一堂，与来自私募股权投资（PE）和风险投资（VC）行业的精英和专家座谈，畅谈行业发展、市场状况和他们的从业心得。

本次交流会由MBA课程学术主任Lydia Price (白诗莉)教授主持，中欧国际工商学院创业学副教授Ramakrishna（方睿哲）也出席了座谈会。首先是来自Neumann executive search 的研究报告。该报告从人力资源实践的角度剖析了PE/VC行业的特点、热点以及在PE/VC的整个基金循环（发觉、评价、投资、管理、退出）中从业人员应具备的素质。

随后，来自普凯投资基金（Prax Capital）的成长基金（Growth Capital Fund）投资副总监，中欧MBA校友Ellen Li 女士向大家介绍了她从业多年来所经手的10多笔PE/VC交易以及2个IPO项目的心得，从个人的角度介绍了具备哪些背景容易获得PE/VC行业的工作机会，并建议刚拿到MBA学位的毕业生可以尝试一些国内基金公司的相关岗位。接着，来自保银资本 (PinPoint Capital) 的合伙人，Thomas Xue先生向中欧MBA学生介绍了当前PE/VC行业的状况以及机遇与挑战, 并给中欧学生们提出很多建议, 使同学们可以有的放矢的提高入行需要的素质。

最精彩的部分则是长达一小时的提问环节，中欧MBA学生向行业专家们提出了关于行业动态或职业发展的问题，很多问题颇具难度；嘉宾们的妙语连珠的精彩回答充分展示了PE/VC行业精英们的风采也体现了他们对行业深入的了解，让同学们受益匪浅，并且清楚的认识到要进入这个发展潜力巨大且竞争相当激烈的行业，不仅需要深入了解特定行业的知识，加强在网络建立，资源获取等方面能力，更要在从业过程中不断提高自己，完善知识结构。

此次座谈会是中欧一系列学生就业指导活动中的一部分。通过与业内精英交流，使学生们近距离了解目标行业，并客观的认识行业状况和入行要求，从而为自己的职业发展找到更精准的定位。
