double的用法

og v11 sc第4题:

A survey by the National Council of Churches showed that i 1986 there were 20,736 female ministers, almost 9 percent of the nation's clergy, twice as much as 1977.

这题的正确答案是选d. double the figure for 1977.

这里想不明白的地方有两个:

1."double"在这里是什么词性呢?
2.划线部分是句子哪个部分的同位语? 按照句意来看应该是强调前面那个数字, 可是这样的话就变成两个同位语同时修饰一个东西了. 不知道我这样理解有没有错误?

刚刚翻了一些旧帖,发现原来"倍数词+the(或所有格)+名词"将组成倍数句型.

例如, twice the xxx, double the xxx.
