为什么选A不选B呢？是因为B中formation前没有of么？还是B的表达不好？

不是B中的 FORMATION不对，A也有它啊。

个人认为，因为B中有HOW，而原文的意思没有HOW怎么样怎么样，所以不忠实原文。A更为贴切！~

主要是因为平行结构。

这是一个“advancing study of +n1 and (advancing study) of + n2”的结构

of 也很关键，因为如果没有of,就会产生歧义，看不出来and 后面的"periodic reversal in direction of ..."是和"how heat from....flows through ..."平行，还是跟“the formation”平行。你看B里面后半部分连着有两个and，却是连接着不同层次的对象，这种结构应当避免。

平行结构是个大问题!~
