这个正确的句子但我有2个疑问
1、为什么是they 而不是 those
2、能不能改写成 than those in 就是说省略be动词

2. 需要用they来把elderly也指代进去，所以不能用those.
其实可以是：In Japan elderly people are treated with far greater respect than in most Western countries.

those要有一个修饰语的变化,若指代people 无法包括elderly
