og181.require的逻辑宾语应该是the enormous research and development expenditures ，因为require是紧跟其后的动词; firms是to survive的逻辑主语。
只是如果改成主动语态：require n1 of n2 to do，这样有什么问题吗？

oops, 'of sb' is 形势宾语 here. it says in teh dictionary 'Do u require anything of me?'
require sb to do sth
require sb that SUBJUCTIVE MOOD without 'should'
so, 109, 'of ' there is wrong ----require sb to do sth
181, 'of ' here is a must ----'Do u require anything of me?'
