很明显A和B的DEPENDING ON MASS的逻辑主语同句子的主句主语是一致的啊？？！

depending on its mass有歧义，是after passing through a red giant stage depending on its mass还是a star will compress itself into ....or a black hole depending on its mass

depending on mass修饰也有歧义，修饰compress, passes又或者是a red giant stage
B:depending on mass修饰歧义

A 和 B 中 "depending on mass" or "depending on its mass" 所修饰的对象有奇异.---偶个人之见.

我觉得句中depending 的逻辑主语应该还是主句中的主语star,  这一点在英语中是不会有变化的 - 也就是说在修饰关系上这里并不存在歧义.

那么A和B问题出在哪里呢?

我觉得问题是出在A和B中的depending分词结构不能清晰地表达出一种原句希望表达出来的因果关系. 原句希望说的是因为mass的不同,  star可能会变成a white dwarf， a neutron star， or a black hole. 但是A和B的分词结构可能引起的歧义是: 因为mass的不同, star可能会变成a white dwarf， a neutron star， or a black hole, 或者可能干脆就不发生变化.

. D把因果关系表达地非常清晰, 所以读上去很爽.

看起来SC中在逻辑性和表达清晰性方面会出一些题目, 而这些题目考的都是思维而不是简单的语法了.

我觉得这道题对中国学生很有迷惑性, 因为我们在母语中已经习惯说:"根据情况的不同, 某某可能变成A, B, 或C.". 在汉语中没有任何歧义, 可是把它翻译成英语, 翻得不好就有歧义了.

恩，自由觉得深海的分析很到位，我也觉得DEPENDING ON的逻辑主语应该是主句主语，这个同语法中的逻辑主语与主句主语一致原则符合，而且好象主句可以带两个分词短语，而每个分词短语是独立的独立主格结构，这个题难度大，700分以上，我还要好好琢磨一下大家发表的不同意见。不过我很佩服大家，虽然意见不同，但都是得到了正确的答案，自由很佩服大家。我再好好琢磨一下这个题，谢谢大家
