Need a Visa to Pursue Your MBA?
If you're a foreign student planning to come to the U.S. or an American going abroad, Paul Zulkie has the answers to your questions
Securing permission to study in the U.S. isn't as easy as it once was. Most U.S. business schools now ask foreign students to apply earlier and to provide more documentation up-front to expedite the visa process. Applicants thus have to do much more legwork to please the federal Office of Homeland Security and get into the country. And even doing all the right things doesn't guarantee that a U.S. consulate or embassy will give a foreign student the green light to study business in America.
If you need a visa to prepare for your MBA, or if you hope to work in the U.S. after grad school, you won't want to miss this event. Paul Zulkie, president-elect of the American Immigration Lawyers Assn. and author of Immigration Compliance in Employment and Business, will be taking your questions during a live chat on Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 2 to 3 p.m. EST.
Zulkie's firm, Zulkie Partners, has processed thousands of work-visa applications. Based on that experience, Zulkie will offer advice on everything from preparing an application and renewing a visa to helping your spouse live in the U.S. while you study and reapplying if you're dinged. After this chat, you'll have a realistic idea of what it'll take for you to get clearance into the U.S.
Zulkie will also talk generally about how U.S. students who plan to study or work abroad should go about applying for foreign visas.
Your co-hosts for this event will be Jack Dierdorff (BWJack), consulting editor of BusinessWeek Online and former managing editor of the magazine, and Mica Schneider (MicaBW), BW Online's reporter covering management education.
Hope to see you there!
BusinessWeek Online rotates chat days and times every month so that everyone has a chance to tune in. If you can't attend a live event, you can always read the transcript that we post afterward.
