a和c一眼就排除，b中appear应该用完成时，d中后面的of them多余，so ...

感觉应该从BE两个选项中选，B给人的感觉是简洁，但是在five hundred million前却少了一个定冠词the，比较可疑。E虽然貌似冗长，但是用Of引导的主从结构清晰，而且有定冠词the,所以我还是倾向于选E。
