Parents play a vital role in their children’s life. There is a controversial issue of what are qualities of a good parent. Different people have different answers according to their respective distinct experiences and backgrounds. The way I see it, a good parent should be responsible, patient, what is more, s/he should has outstanding skill of communication.

To begin with, good parents should be responsible. They should not only provide their kids with necessary material, such as food and clothes, but also provide their kids with a healthy and happy atmosphere. That is to say, father and mother should love each other as well as get along with each other very well. I once encountered a survey on Science which says that a child whose parents always quarrel or even fight has smaller chance to be optimistic about life, but high chance of committing suicide. So responsible is the basic quality of a good parent.

Next, a good parent should be patient. Children are much different from adult. It take them more time to remember things. Therefore we may often observe that a child who is asked to stop from licking his/her toy several times actually will always lick it. So in order to make child remember some important disciplines, a parent need to teach s/he time and time again. And that is why the patient is the essential factor of a good parent.

Furthermore, a good parent should have an outstanding skill of communication. Every child will meet some difficulties on their way to grow up, and parents should devote themselves to helping. A parent who has outstanding skill of communication can easily understand kids' problems and give the best advice in efficient way.

Admittedly, there are other precious qualities a good parent should obtain, such as considerate and humor, however, considering the discussion above, they are not the cardinal ones. To put it in nutshell, a good parent who is responsible, patient and has outstanding skill of communication will benefit his/her children throughout their lives.
