TWE099: To have school assign a roommate for you, or you choose by yourself?

Living in campus is an important part of university life. For most students, it is the first time to live away from home. If I have to share a room with another people, I would have school to assign a roommate for me. I am sure school will choose someone who is compatible with me, so I can meet new friend, and learn to get along with others.

I am sure school will choose a roommate who is compatible with me. As I know, the school I am going to attend has a well developed system in matching roommates. Before moving in, all dormitory residents will be asked to fill out information sheet, on which one’s interests, habits, and majors should be listed. Then school match roommates according to the information on the sheet, which appears to me to be a reasonable and trustable roommate assigning system.

I can meet new friend when school choose a roommate for me. I don’t know many people in the university. And school arranges us in the same room because we have something in common. It should be easier to start topic with my roommates, and we may soon enjoy each other’s company. Besides, my roommate can introduce new people to me, and I can do this to him/her as well.

I will learn to get along with people by this chance of having school assign a roommate for me. Prior to university, I lived at home with parents, where I could do everything I wanted to. For instance, in my bedroom, I could listen to music, turn on Television, and chat with friends through cell phone for hours. However, living in dormitory, you will have to take into account of your roommate’s feeling and needs. My roommate and I may have to sit down to set rules that fit well to each other’s life style. By doing this, our social skills and abilities can grow significantly.

Residence experience plays a critical role in university life. I strongly support the idea to have school assigns a roommate for me. Because school will definitely choose someone who is compatible with me, which not only helps me to expand social circle, but also train my social ability. This experience can even benefit me in the future.
