OG-175：due to 固定结构的合理性？

175. Two new studies indicate that many people become obese more due to the fact that their bodies burn calories too slowly than overeating.

(A)  due to the fact that their bodies burn calories too slowly than overeating

(B)  due to their bodies burning calories too slowly than to eating too much

(C)  because their bodies bum calories too slowly than that they are overeaters

(D)  because their bodies bum calories too slowly than because they eat too much

(E)  because of their bodies burning calories too slowly than because of their eating too much

首先承认D是对的。但我对于OD解释中的一句话不理解：A and B use due to unidiomatically to mean because;

为什么due to the fact that结构不正确呢？朗文语法中还专门讲了这样的结构。

新东方上海分校的杨维新老师的解释是：due to在GMAT中一出现就是错的。这样的解释能否成立？又如何理解OG的解释呢？

我查到的用法是be due to, 也就是说due to 只能当成ADJ来用:

for example: Her absence was due to the storm.

谢谢回复！我查朗文电子词典，它的解释是：due to是作介词成分来看的，相当于because of。当然，你所举的be due to结构是完全正确的。但除此之外，还有例句：（1）She has been absent from work due to illness.

（2）Attendance at the meeting was small, due in part to (=partly because of) the absence of teachers.

OG认为这里的due to使用不可取，其原因是不是认为它不能用于比较结构中？

另外，新东方的通则“due to出现就是错的”在GMAT中成立吗？

应该这样讲, 比较结构前后不对称

只能说, OG在这边给出很明确的解释, 没法用其它语法书或是字典来辩驳

如果比较结构对称，能否用due to 呢？即：more due to X than due to Y.

你的意思是不是指：即使due to在比较结构前后对称，它用在比较结构中也是不合理的（因为它就是不能用于比较）？

OG解释:  A and B use due to unidiomatically to mean because;

properly used, due to is synonymous with attributable to.

那么due to在og232是什么词性?

Due to has been widely used for many years as a compound preposition like  owing to,   but some critics have insisted that the adjectival status of due  must be retained.  According to this view, it is incorrect to say The concert was canceled due to the rain,   as opposed to the acceptable The cancellation of the concert was due to the rain,   where due  continues to function as an adjective modifying  cancellation.  
Due to 已多年被广泛地当作象 owing to 那样的复合介词使用， 但批评者坚持认为应保持due 的形容词地位。 按照这一观点，说因为下雨，音乐会被取消了 是不正确的， 而应说音乐会的取消是因为下雨 ， 在后句中due 起形容词作用，修饰 cancellation  

另外，正因为这个问题有争议，所以ETS在设计选项的时候不太喜欢用due to吧？而只是用它作为干扰项！！
