我想请问为什么这个错：were the Maya who, without the benefit of animal transport or the wheel, built huge palace and temple clusters.

句子主语改变了，变成：Architects and stonemasons。

were the Maya who 变成了非限制性定语从句了。

就是说语法是对的，只是改变了句子的主语。

D 与 E 选项一的区别在于D 的主语是The maya, 前面的做同位语修饰主语.意思为玛雅人是建筑师和石匠,在没有....的帮助下修建..... E 选项把Architects and stonemasons 作为主语, 句子的结构变为Architects and stonemasons, were the Maya who....... ,后面的东西全部是who 这个定语从句里的内容,不是前面说的Architects and stonemasons, .....built huge palace and temple clusters. 这样的结构. E 存在一个逻辑错误, 我们可以说玛雅人都是建筑师和石匠,但是我们不能说建筑师和石匠都是玛雅人,还有就是语法错误, 如果Architects and stonemasons, were the Maya 算倒装的话,9 中间是不能用逗号隔开的,这一点白勇的语法书上也有讲,我觉得是蛮有道理的.

我觉得是“Architects and stonemasons, were the Maya who....”中间的逗号用的不对。如果Architects and stonemasons是主语，而were是谓语的话，他们之间不能有逗号连接。所以错误。

D 是同位语结构, E是定语从句，最简单的考虑方法，是经验规律：在很多情况下，同位语〉〉定语从句；

更何况，原文强调的是built这个动作，而E是将were作为谓语动词，后面说有的成分做定语从句， 颠倒了句子中心，这个在GMAT里面是算作correctness错误，所以D肯定不对
