[求助]新手上路第二篇 大家多多指教

TITLE:

The government should require all young adults to perform some kind of national service, such as military service or social work. agree and disagree?

How to teach and cultivate our young generation remains a ubiquitous problem for all societies. It is widely accepted that the government should offer them opportunity to receive high standard education, such as raising the quality of teachers, equipping schools with affluent learning materials and advanced techniques. However, is this the mere thing the government could provide to help the young adults? Definitely not. From my point of view, the government should require the young adults to participate in national service to help them uplift their integrated qualities and perfect their personalities.

First and more most, national work which encompasses a strong sense of team and nation have a favorable effect on building young adults' teamwork spirit and patriotism. For instance, a young adult is distributed in a certain group during military services. Then he is no longer himself but a member and representative of his group. If he breaks the rule, the punishment and bad reputation are attributed to his group. Consequently, the concepts of team rather than individual would take roots in his mind. Furthermore, military services generally include theoretical courses to familiar young adults with the event, reform and military war which their nation underwent. In this situation, young adults receive relatively vivid and impressive lessons of patriotism.

Secondly, national work is beneficial to young adults in building their willpower. As we know, many young people spoiled by their caring parents are commonly vulnerable to adversities and setbacks. If they experience severe trainings such as military services, the outcomes will be totally (completely) different. Once a young adult conquers the intense military practices which requires both physical and mental energy and tastes the joy of victory, he will appreciate the importance of being strong-minded and persist in face of difficulties.

Finally, national work alters the way young adults treat other people. Young adults, who are isolated from society, tend to be self-centered, selfish and indifferent. Given the opportunity to do social work, they will learn how to communicate and cooperate with other people. As a result, they tend to be more comprehensive to other people's opinion and advice, more sympathetic to misfortune of others, and more willing to help others, and these changes occur involuntarily.

One the whole, nation service is advantageous to the development of young adults in multiple ways and the government should take the responsibility to advocate young adults to join in this meaningful and beneficial activity.
