请教两个语法点！！！

虽说是语法题，但我不懂的点很明确，就直接放有疑问的句子吧：

1. Very popular from 1900 until the 1920's, the renewed interest in ceiling fans began when the energy crisis in 1974 forced homeowners to look for alternative methods of heating and cooling.
这是个错误的句子，我想请教的是解释中说 popular 和 interest 不能形成逻辑修饰关系是怎么回事？popular不就是修饰interest吗？

2.Since savings banks have to use short-term deposits to finance long-term fixed-rate mortgage loans, they sometimes lose money when short-term rates rise and they are unable to raise the rates on their mortgages.
这句话中后半句用and时没有符合GMAT平常强调的平行并列，这该如何解释呢？

原句的意思是ceiling fans was very popular from 1900 until the 1920s, 不可能是interst is popular，LZ注意理解句子的意思，这个题就考逻辑主语。

Since savings banks have to use short-term deposits to finance long-term fixed-rate mortgage loans, they sometimes lose money when short-term rates rise and they are unable to raise the rates on their mortgages.
LZ可能对平行纠结得太深入了，and,but这一类的连词没有非常非常固定的平行要求，不像unlike,not only but also这一类，and 可以表达sequence,或者是连接independent的events。建议LZ看看RON的讲义截图，论坛有下载。

请教两个语法点！！！
