看了jnlvo版主的注释, 还有一些前辈的贴子, 我还是有所疑问.

1) B应该没有什么问题. than (vehicles) burning gasoline or diesel fuel do. 这里的省略是可以的, 没有什么歧义.

2) fewer of/less of的用法, 做了很多题, 觉得ETS对fewer of和less of的用法很严格.

这个贴子, 我觉得也许是选E的原因.

我觉得是因为这里的比较是certain pollutants释放程度的多少，而不是pollutants种类的多少，所以用less

1. 感觉严格意义上看，这种情况下those是不省的。印象中还不太记得有可省的例子。不知你能否举出相关的例句。

2. 我觉得这个观点是有一定道理的，虽然不敢肯定。从网上找到两个句子：

不过从意思理解上看，第一句fewer换成less好像也并无不可。当然网上的例子是不足以说明问题的，再讨论。

1. 重新看了一下省略的题, 这里those是补上比较好. 我最初觉得从逻辑上讲, B只可能是省略vehicles. 因为这里换gas或pollutants逻辑也不对.

2. 再看一次本题, less of是对的. less 这里做名词. emit less (of polluants). 大全里好象也没有fewer of的用法. B 中的fewer of 如果改成fewer certain pollutants 应该是可以的.

不补会有those 和pollutants比较的歧义.虽说逻辑意思上这样比较讲不通,但我觉得ETS有很多意思上荒谬的但变换结构的形式.随手想到的就是OG里

某某cousin 发现火山喷发 in two letters这题,意思上说不可能有歧异.

为什么不用补出do呢?虽然是选最好的, 但是这个也有点离谱了, OG里面无数题强调补出啊!

按照ETS的白痴思维, 完全有可能歧义啊!
