我觉得你把attempt 和to ratify the Equal Rights 分开那么远是不对的
而这里用过去分词不用定从就是避免歧义。而且这样一改句子很不简洁。而且结构也很零散。

你当然可以这样表达。但是我还是觉得分词在这里更简洁。同时，我认为，gmat的语法就是在那5个选项里找最好的。否则容易见木不见林。

同时我对于这个题也有疑问的是，我认为that the Yankee peddler had learned before him的确应该用过去完成时态

knew 是过去时，that the Yankee peddler has learned before him 是现在时，过去是不可能确切知道现在的事情。所以B 不应该是最好的选项。

in the sentence :"begun.....", 过去分词做后置定语也好,做分词壮语从句也好,还原之后
都应有被动态的味道.所以那到题不能选有discovered的选项.
