4. It has been said, “Not everything that is learned is contained in books.” Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why?
Nowadays, more and more people, especially who have got educated, value knowledge very much. Because, to those individual, having knowledge is not only a way to earn money but a method so as to enrich their mental life. They gained knowledge both from experience and books. So, it is hard to say which source is more important, as two of these are equally significant. Here are my supports: Firstly, learning from books is a customary way for most people. In fact, before people start learning a new subject, whether attending a class or learning by himself/herself, they would buy some relative teaching books or reference books first even without thinking. For example, before I started preparing the TOEFL TEST, I went to bookstore to buy lots of books, such as Official Guide, some books on writing or reading skills. Besides, I also loaded down some simulate tests from the Internet. All of these literal materials are necessary to me. Having those stuffs, I have known much better of the TOEFL TEST and enhance myself on all of these skills. Through the above example, I want to point out that obtaining knowledge from books is an indispensable way of learning. Because books are authoritative, meanwhile it gets all pieces of fractions in one subject together, which makes complex theories more understandable and easier to handle. While, books do have disadvantages, such as over dogmatic. And it is not all books right. On the other hand, gaining knowledge from experience is also crucial. Though sometimes experience may leads to misunderstanding or unilateral ideas, it is more directly, simple and practical than the theory. And some experiences could never be instead by learning from books. For example, you should never ride a bike unless you get on the bike. Moreover, currently, people have put experience on a high level. Nearly all the companies require the people whom they are gonging to employ having experience, which is even can not be instead of higher degree. In fact, the one having more experience is more competitive. Besides, I think accumulating experience is also a joyful process. Consequently, neither experience nor books can be instead, and they all important. In my opinion, which source is better depending what kind of thing people want to learn. Science stuffs are better learned from books, while sports stuffs are better learned from experience.
