GWD24-13

Vivien Thomas, who had no formal medical training, in struggling against overwhelming odds, he became a cardiac surgeon and eventually to receive an honorary doctorate from Johns
                Hopkins
                University
.

A) who had no formal medical training, in struggling against overwhelming odds, he became

B) having had no formal medical training, in struggling against overwhelming odds to become

C) who, having no formal medical training, he struggled against overwhelming odds in becoming

D) who, having had no formal medical training and struggled against overwhelming odds, became (E)

E) who had no formal medical training, struggled against overwhelming odds to become

good luck!

I guess nobody saw my question... it's in the post No. 5.

I'll try to answer my own question.

in the example choice C

who, having no formal medical training, he struggled against overwhelming odds in becoming

having 分词短语位置不好,可能做定语,可能做状语, it can modify the preceeding subject, or it can modify the following phrase. It is ambiguous so it's wrong.

What 紫草姐姐 didn't say is this underlying rule. Next when you see a participle (分词短语) in 主语和谓语之间, you can eliminate it without thinking further.

Correct me if I am wrong.
