One friend, who is ABC, told me that in interview, you should make the point and answer questions briefly; if not necessarily, don't tell as many details as in the essay; if the interviewee ask for details or examples, then you answer this updated or followup quiz. Does it work? Yes, it does work. I had a mock interview with a Chicago alumni before my real interview. And she strongly recommended to answer the questions briefly with a few bullet points. For example, to answer the question "Why this school", you can answer as "there are mainly three reasons: one, xxxx; two, xxx; three xxx" in a very succinct way. Then "i'd like to elaborate as follows ....." if you deem necessary. Prioritize your answers, i.e. answer the most important point first. Don't go to each point in too much detail (as you write in essays) unless the interviewer ask you to further explain. Otherwise, he/she may get lost. Practice makes perfect. Write down the answers of the frequently asked questions, recite if you are not confident on your English fluency. It will help you a lot in your real interview even you don't have to recite as accurately as written in your answers. Practice diligently at home in front of mirror. Keep smiling! Mock interview will be of a great help as the interviewer may find your weakness that you would have never realized by practicing yourself. Good luck! |
