主要是dot的语态问题，monasteries are dotting the mountainous regions of northern Ethiopia是不合理的表达方式。

你的意思是否我们只能说the sky is dotted with stars。而不能说the stars dot the sky.

我又仔细想了想，的确似乎the stars dot the sky也挺好的，但是题目中的时态问题我觉得无法考虑，因为只有一句话，根本没有判断的依据。所以唯一可理解的就是语态问题吧，这样的表达方式不好，虽然可以，你觉得呢？

are doting 进行时态不对，应用dot表示从古至今的一个事实。

另, 我对本题也有疑惑，选项D为什么不对？ many of which引导的非限制性定语从句好像也成立。

正确答案中，them后面的are时不存在的。从语法角度出发：many of which were chiseled from solid rock ccenturies ago和many of them chiseled from solid rock...都对。但是后比前者简洁。
